Player of the Week - Dec. 15

The Hockey News’ player of the week is a newcomer to this space, B.J. Crombeen. The St. Louis right winger is making Blues management look clairvoyant for grabbing the 23-year-old off the waiver wire from Dallas in mid-November.

The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder’s week began with a three-goal, one-assist performance versus Nashville on Monday that included the game-winner. He followed that up with a goal, a fight and a plus-1 rating in a loss to Anaheim Wednesday. Thursday against Los Angeles, Crombeen was held scoreless in a 6-2 loss, but he came back Saturday with a goal and a plus-1 rating against league-leading San Jose.

For the week, Crombeen had five goals, an assist and was plus-2 in four games. For the season, he has seven goals and 13 points in 28 games; six goals and eight points in 13 games with the Blues.

With two game-winning goals and a few multi-point games, Jonathan Toews earned player of the week honors.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Dec. 1-7 is Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews. The super sophomore tallied six points in three games during the week, capping it off with a game-winning goal and an assist in the Blackhawks’ 7-1 rout of Phoenix Sunday.

The backup goalie in Miami, Craig Anderson has relieved Tomas Vokoun like an all-star so far this season.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Nov. 24-30 is Florida Panthers goalie Craig Anderson. In back-to-back games against the Eastern powerhouse New York Rangers, Anderson turned aside 43 shots in an eventual shootout loss, then cranked it up two days later by foisting a 37-save shutout on the Blueshirts.

Dainius Zubrus capped off a solid week with a four-goal game to earn this week's honors.
The Hockey News player of the week for Nov. 17-23 is Dainius Zubrus of the New Jersey Devils. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound center tied a team record Sunday with four goals as the Devils thumped the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-3, capping off a solid week for the veteran.

Washington's Nicklas Backstrom is on fire and earns this week's honor.
The Hockey News player of the week for Nov. 10-16 is Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals. The second-year center has been on fire of late, tallying 10 points in his past three games, mostly on the strength of his playmaking abilities (eight of the 10 points were assists).

Roberto Luongo is THN.com's player of the week after three straight shutouts last week.
The Hockey News’ player of the week for Nov. 3-9 is Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo. In the wake of Martin Brodeur’s injury and all the chatter it caused about who will start for Team Canada in 2010, Luongo made an early stab at sewing up the job with three shutouts in three games last week.

With 10 points in four games and a plus-4 rating, Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf earns this week's honors.
The Hockey News player of the week for Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 is Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf, who notched 10 points in four games. The star power forward posted five assists in a 5-4 overtime win against the defending champion Red Wings to help extend his team’s winning streak to five games.

A seven-point week and a jump up the leaderboard earns Evgeni Malkin with player of the week honors.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Oct. 13 to Oct. 19 is Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins. In consecutive games against Washington and Toronto, Malkin torched the competition for a combined seven points, including a four-assist performance against the Maple Leafs.

The Canucks left winger takes the first honor of '08-09 by tallying five points in two games to open the season.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Oct. 6 to Oct. 12 is Vancouver Canucks left winger Daniel Sedin. The 28-year-old picked up two goals and three assists as the Canucks picked up a pair of victories over the Flames.

Henrik Zetterberg is the final player to be honored as player of the week until next hockey season.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of June 2 to June 8 is Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg. The 27-year-old Swede had four points in the last two games of the season, including the Stanley Cup-winning goal.

For the second week in a row Chris Osgood's stellar play in the playoffs warrants Player of the Week honors.
The Hockey News player of the week for the period of May 26 to June 1 is Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood. The 35-year-old stopped 22 shots in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final to earn his second straight shutout of the series.
