Tampa Bay right winger Evgeny Artyukhin has been in the news recently. The 6-foot-5, 254-pound Russian bear has been throwing bodychecks like it’s nobody’s business, moving into the league’s top-10 hit-dishers with 114 and making life a little more painful for opponents such as Alex Tanguay and, more recently, rookie blueliner Drew Doughty.

NHL governors are meeting in West Palm Beach, Fla., this week and Day 1 was all about the economy. NHL owners and team executives were addressed by economists from both sides of the border concerning the long-term ramifications of the current economic downturn on league business.

Columbus goalie Steve Mason was named the NHL’s rookie of the month for November. The 2008 world junior championship MVP is a former London Knight and (briefly) Kitchener Ranger in the Ontario League.
