Giving up draft picks to sign a player for big money isn't the best move in the salary cap era, so don't expect it to start happening more.
The hockey establishment was given a good stiff figurative kick in the groin last summer when the Edmonton Oilers signed restricted free agents Thomas Vanek and Dustin Penner to expensive offer sheets.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is a nice touch to honor the game's past, and while Gordie Howe was the perfect selection, "Terrible" Ted Lindsay should be next.
It was nice to see the NHL borrow an idea from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science people – among other organizations – in coming up with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Like back behind the bench as an assistant coach or head coach.

The better team won Game 7 Tuesday night. If not in the Washington-Philadelphia series, then certainly in the San Jose-Calgary series, won 5-3 by the Sharks.

News of Ed Chynoweth's failing health left us with a moment to reflect on a career of success, dedication and admiration.
It was with sadness this week I received an email from my esteemed colleague Rob Vanstone that Western Hockey League icon Ed Chynoweth is not doing well in his fight with kidney cancer.
