The undrafted college free agent didn't ever fit in with the Kings, but has come along fast since moving to Tampa Bay.
Undrafted college free agents are an interesting and unpredictable bunch. For every Martin St-Louis there are 10 T.J. Trevelyans. But that’s the risk-reward behind acquiring players this way.

With Halloween on the brain this author writes about four players that have been a treat to watch so far.
Happy All Saints Day everyone – otherwise known as “my stomach hurts from eating too much candy” Day. It’s the time of year when early-season surprises begin to either slip back to reality or form into a trend.

Roberto Luongo Vancouver's best bet

Roberto Luongo Vancouver's best bet

Some might think it's in Vancouver's best interest to trade Roberto Luongo, but this author thinks that is just plain dumb.
I’m often amazed at how confidently some people expect a prospect to come in and instantly fix a problem. The NHL is more of a young man’s league than ever, but this logic still spits in the face of reality.

The OHL's first overall pick is off to a good start for the rebuilding Barrie Colts and got on the board for the first time Saturday night.
BARRIE, ONT. – A little bit of history was written Saturday night just off Mapleview Drive when Aaron Ekblad, the first player since John Tavares to be granted exceptional player status and early entry into the Ontario League, notched his first goal (and point) of his junior career with a point shot on a man advantage against the Niagara IceDogs in a wild 8-6 win.

More often than not, making prospects develop slowly in minor leagues works best and the Panthers have to handle Huberdeau correctly.
Inevitably – and usually immediately after – a prospect chosen in the first round of the draft will be visualized on the ice with a cast of current players.

What defines a sports dynasty?

Is a dynasty all about winning consecutive championships, or is it more about continuous domination?
After 2009’s Stanley Cup championship, the hockey world was buzzing at the prospect of a Pittsburgh Penguins dynasty. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fleury – all the main pieces that brought a title and back-to-back final appearances to Pittsburgh were in place and they were all still at the beginning of their careers.
