Florida seems determined not to learn from past mistakes, making the team's chances of a playoff berth seem farther away than ever.
Is there a bigger laughingstock in the NHL than the Florida Panthers?
Seriously. Whenever I tell anyone that, yes, I wore a Panthers jersey as a kid in minor hockey practice, the same flabbergasted look always comes back at me.

A lack of a transfer agreement with European nations has scouts looking to the USHL at college-bound players.
Without a transfer agreement between the NHL and the European nations, all the rules of drafting are starting to change and as a result, some of the United States junior leagues are standing to benefit.

Round 1 was full of action, but after the dust settled, who came out on top and who could have done better?
OTTAWA - A ton of trades stole the Stamkos show in Friday’s first round and a lot of this year’s opening round winners added upgrades that will help them win right away.

The NHL approved three rule changes Wednesday, two of which are troublesome in the eyes of this author.
I’m a little unsettled by two of the league’s three newest rulebook additions.
The first: The first power play faceoff will automatically be taken in the penalized team’s zone.

When Canada's second anthem changed its uniform, it was a sad, sad day for the traditional hockey fan.
Canadian Why
(To American Pie)
A long, long time ago…
I can still remember
How the Hockey Theme used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make the home crowd chant
And, maybe, they would party for a while.

The refs, as they always do, judged the game in an unbiased manner and to let talk of a conspiracy overshadow a wonderful Cup is a shame.
Can everyone stop the slinging, put down the mud and enjoy what was a thrilling Stanley Cup final, before this season becomes one for the long-term memory bank?
Penalty count: Pittsburgh 40, Detroit 36.

The presentation of Lord Stanley's mug is always special, but there's icing on the cake when it happens in front of home fans.
The time is near.
It could be Monday, or it could still be more than a week away. One thing’s for sure, though, I just love when the Stanley Cup comes out of hibernation, especially when it’s presented in front of a hometown crowd.

Roenick's new deal is good for Sharks fans and the league... can afternoon hockey be OK?... and it's time for the return of the World Cup.
I’m so glad Jeremy Roenick is coming back.
Through his career I’ve never considered him among my favorite players – in fact, most of the time I found myself rooting against him - but you have to appreciate his passion for the game and his willingness to proudly display it.

Win or lose, Marty Turco is the center of attention for Dallas... World Championship experience... and Dave Steinhart.
There goes another monkey off the back of Marty Turco.
Despite being one of the world’s best players at his position, Turco is consistently one of the most underappreciated, as well.

This edition of the playoffs has been great, but if you threw all law and order out the window you could create something spectacular.
Let’s build the ultimate 2008 Stanley Cup final.
Like Dr. Frankenstein building a glorious marvel of scientific achievement with parts gathered, based on these playoffs, we’ll build a fantastic display of sporting competition with what we’ve seen so far.

They're not the Broad Street Bullies, but the Flyers are getting gritty and the Habs have no answer... and debating the Begin hit.
As a traditional-minded hockey fan, it always makes me happy to see the physical aspect of the game alive and well and that it can still be the difference between winning and losing.

Brendan Morrow, aka Brett Hull... who can stop Cheechoo?... and Thornton must step up if Sharks are to advance.
Wow.
What a start to what should be a long, enticing series.
It wasn’t the bloodbath some expected after their over-the-top season finale, but it was truly a back-and-forth game full of everything.
