The NHL Network host was at a recent event that reminded him of the late Central Scouting guru who was dedicated to the game of hockey.
A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure of being invited to a season-ending banquet for the Williamsville North Spartans, as they celebrated their New York State Public High School Division 1 hockey championship.

The landscape for trades has changed since the salary cap came in, so GMs should look to other capped leagues where players are exchanged for salary space.
A little more than three weeks ago, 14 teams concluded what was, for the most part, a fruitless 82-game regular season. Since then, eight more teams have joined them – in some cases far earlier than they or the prognosticators would have anticipated.

At the start of the year questions were asked about certain players. With the regular season behind us now, Brian Duff looks back at what should have been asked.
One of the league’s post-lockout marketing campaigns revolves around the question “Is this the year?” About seven months ago we put together an hour-long season preview show on the NHL Network based on those four little words.

Nicklas Backstrom, who will forever play second fiddle to Alex Ovechkin, has all the makings of a future Hall of Famer in the same vein as Yzerman, Trottier and Sakic.
It’s only fitting that on a day when Nicklas “Get On My” Backstrom was clearly the best player on the ice, he would be overshadowed in the aftermath by his teammate who played a mere four shifts before being ejected for a boarding major.

The NHL Network analyst looks at key figures to keep an eye on heading into the trade deadline and down the stretch.

The impressive progress of Stamkos and Duchene; Quick's record pace; Howard for Calder; Jokinen belongs on Finland; super Staal; and more.
Do you believe in miracles? Well, if not miracles, then how about conspiracy theories, the paranormal or the supernatural? How else can one explain the Rangers not only finding a taker for Scott Gomez's contract in the off-season, but a taker for Ales Kotalik's and Chris Higgins' contracts in-season? Or separate deals involving Dion Phaneuf and Ilya Kovalchuk that on the surface sound like they were generated by call-in shows on sports-talk radio.

The NHL Network host looks at the 10 best players who got one-year contract this off-season.
With so much scrutiny (and rightly so) placed upon GMs by media and fans alike for an alarming number of ill-advised, cap-unfriendly deals, it’s time to take a look at the top 10 performances so far from players on one-year deals, making less than $3 million, who can become unrestricted free agents next summer.

The NHL Network host looks at each of the 30 NHL teams and the deals that will come back to bite them.
As teams set their rosters on the final day of September, you can only imagine what kind of thoughts are going through the minds of 30 GMs after lengthy internal debates with assistants, scouts, their kids and maybe the family dog, too.

Despite leading the Flyers to the conference final in 2008, Martin Biron still couldn't find a No. 1 this summer, but he's still planning on landing that long-term deal.
"Obviously, it didn't go according to plan." No, we're not talking about Dany Heatley and his apparent belief every team in the NHL should want his services.

The NHL Network host writes about the times had on the road from Detroit to Pittsburgh and everything in between, while covering the seven-game series.
Following Game 2 of the final, we began what now feels like annual trek...Detroit to Pittsburgh, and back, and back, and, this year, back again.

The NHL Network host looks back at the Traverse City prospect tourney, where he first got a glimpse at the Blues rookie who's taken St. Louis by storm.
Here we are, two weeks away from the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs and I can't stop thinking back six months to the biggest and best gathering of prospects in Traverse City, Mich.

The NHL Network host discusses Josh Harding as a fit in Colorado, crease crashers becoming an issue and why Rod Brind'Amour isn't done yet.
If someone were to ask you - name one team that needs a goaltender for next year - which team would you pick? For me, the answer is pretty obvious: the Colorado Avalanche.
