With nine picks in the 2008 NHL Draft--including the #2 overall pick--the L.A. Kings addressed one of their most pressing needs--defense. The team boasts some of the NHL's great young forwards in Alex Frolov, Dustin Brown and Patrick O' Sullivan and now they have some legitimate defensive prospects as well.

As I mentioned in my last posting, the only part the Kings will play in the 2008 post season will be as spoiler to someone and that prediction certainly came true this week as they took two crucial points away from Phoenix on Thursday as they destroyed the Coyotes at Staples Center 4-0.

The Kings lose to the Sharks 2-1 but have a core of young players that bode well for the future.
The LA Kings are in one of those good news/bad news situations right now. The bad news is that their last nine games of the season are all against their four Pacific Division foes—three of which are a lock for the playoffs (San Jose, Anaheim and Dallas) and the fourth (Phoenix) fighting for the eighth spot.
