There are few goaltenders in the history of the game that deserve to have their jersey retired as much as Dominik Hasek, and now you can watch as the Buffalo Sabres raise his legendary No. 39 to the rafters of the First Niagara Center.

There’s no debating that Dominik Hasek was one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, and it’s no question he was the greatest Buffalo Sabres netminder of all time.

With six Vezina Trophoies, two Hart Trophies, and two Lester B. Pearson Awards (now known as the Ted Lindsay Award) to his name during his nine years with the Sabres, there was also no doubt that one day his legendary No. 39 would hang from the rafters of Buffalo’s home arena. On Tuesday, the Sabres did just that, retiring his jersey. You can check out the banner raising below:

Hasek’s banner being raised with the help of former Buffalo stars Danny Gare and Rene Robert is a really nice touch by the Sabres, especially with him joining them as honored members of the team.

The jersey retirement for Hasek was the second of three this week, as Teemu Selanne’s jersey was retired on Sunday, and Rob Blake’s No. 4 will be retired by the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, Jan. 17.
