Detroit Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser still doesn’t have a contract with the team. The 24-year-old is coming off a 23-point season in 65 games and, in all likelihood, he’ll have a new deal in place before the season starts. DeKeyser is an RFA and the Red Wings need him on the blueline – it’s a match.

But in the meantime: what to do, what to do?

How about take to the skies in an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet and pull a few G’s?

DeKeyser joined the Blue Angels, who are in town for an air show, and the selfie cam shots showing highlights from his 40-minute flight are something else. If you’re like me and aren’t particularly fond of flying, you might need a plastic bag near by.

By all accounts, DeKeyser wasn’t sick so kudos to him.

Here’s what DeKeyser told Ansar Khan of MLive about the intense trip:

“You don’t really get an opportunity to do something like this too often, so I figured why not?” DeKeyser said.

“I didn’t do anything to prepare. They put you through a little tutorial before and kind of tell you how to tighten your legs, and you got to squeeze certain muscles so you don’t pass out. You just got to do it to know what it feels like.”

He described taking off at what felt like a 90-degree angle as a “weird feeling.”

“(The pilot) guns it off the end of the runway, straight up and you’re gone,” DeKeyser said. “We’re up to Port Huron (about 30 miles away) in about two minutes.”

Intense.

No thanks! I’m good here on the ground.
