VIDEO: Blues want to be Canada's team for remainder of playoffs

For fans of the NHL's seven Canadian teams, it has been a disappointing spring. The St. Louis Blues are now trying to give Canada a rooting interest for the remainder of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It has been well documented that the NHL post-season is without a Canadian team for the first time in 46 years. Canadian TV ratings have subsequently plummeted.

In a two-minute video posted online Friday afternoon, the Blues offered many compelling reasons for Canadians to jump on their bandwagon for the rest of their playoff run.

In the partly joking, but also mostly serious montage, the Blues' video overlays narrative text on Canadian imagery, some of which includes a Canadian flag, empty Canadian arenas, moose, a Canada goose, beer and poutine. They thank Canada for "sharing hockey" and point out the many ways in which the Blues themselves are distinctly Canadian, including the facts that GM Doug Armstrong and head coach Ken Hitchcock are Canadian, that Armstrong "is your GM too!" in reference to his leading role with Team Canada's World Cup of Hockey entry, that Hitchcock helped coach Canada to Olympic gold, and that the roster boasts more Canadian players than any other team left vying for the Stanley Cup. The editors even threw in a random "sorry" for good measure.

For Canadians sitting on the fence on who to root for, or are just lukewarm to this year's playoffs in general, the Blues make a valiant sell job. The club even took things a step further on Facebook, setting the video to The Tragically Hip's Looking For A Place To Happen. All it's missing is some maple syrup and a beaver.

The Western Conference Final between the Blues and San Jose Sharks begins Sunday at 8 p.m. ET in St. Louis.
