During Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Stars, Patrick Sharp got absolutely rocked by Shawn Horcoff. Following the blast from the Stars center, Sharp got up and had some words with Horcoff, leading to the Blackhawks winger’s first fight in six years.

There’s a good reason why players are taught to check over their shoulders before attempting to make a quick move one way or the other. Unfortunately for him, Patrick Sharp can be used as an example of what not to do.

On Sunday night, as the Blackhawks took on the Stars, Sharp skated into the Dallas zone after a loose puck. With Dallas defenseman Jamie Oleksiak putting pressure on him from the right, he turned back quickly, only to be met by the hard-charging shoulder of Shawn Horcoff. The hit was a train wreck.

Right after the hit, Sharp came to his own defense, challenging and throwing down with Horcoff. The fight, about as close to a draw as you can get, was Sharp’s first since the 2008-09 season when he went toe-to-toe with Jay McKee, according to HockeyFights.com. Horcoff last dropped the mitts in the 2013-14 playoffs when he fought then-Anaheim Ducks defenseman Luca Sbisa.

Dallas went on to double up the Blackhawks 6-3, handing Chicago their second straight home ice loss to a division rival.
