According to a report, the alleged victim in the rape investigation surround Patrick Kane no longer wishes to cooperate. The investigation is surrounding an alleged incident between Kane and a woman at his home on Aug. 2.
Report: Patrick Kane’s accuser ‘no longer wants to cooperate’ in investigationThe woman who accused Patrick Kane of rape in August has told the district attorney’s office she is no longer interested in cooperating with the investigation, according to The Buffalo News.
The Buffalo News’ Dan Herbeck and Lou Michel reported early Tuesday that the alleged victim cited the stress the investigation has put on her and her family as reasons why she no longer wants to take part in the investigation. The Buffalo News stated the alleged victim, “signed a document called an ‘affidavit declining prosecution,’ which is now under consideration by District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.”
Whether or not the case goes forward will now be up to Sedita, but he did not state what the next step in the investigation would be. Sedita did not confirm nor deny his intention to present the case to a grand jury or file criminal charges against the 26-year-old Chicago Blackhawks right winger, but a report in The Buffalo News Saturday said Kane was unlikely to face charges.
“I am waiting for the investigation to be completed to my satisfaction,” Sedita told The Buffalo News, “and to confer with the assigned prosecutor, who is on her vacation six time zones away, before announcing anything further.”
The investigation involving Kane stems from an incident on Aug. 2 in which the alleged victim said Kane raped her at his home in Hamburg, N.Y., just outside Kane’s hometown of Buffalo.
According to The Buffalo News, “authorities have decided there are too many questions about the woman’s rape allegations for them to proceed with rape charges.”
Kane was asked Sunday about the report that no charges would be filed, but offered no comment.
“Those are just reports, and not really any facts or anything so far,” Kane said, via the Chicago Sun-Times’ Mark Lazerus. “So for me to comment on that would be going against what we’ve been doing the whole time, so I’m not really going to say much about it until the district attorney addresses everything and he makes his decision.”
If the district attorney’s office decides not to pursue charges against Kane, he could still face a civil suit from his accuser.
