The Val'd'Or Foreurs mounted a big comeback to knock out the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the second round, but emotions got the better of the teens once the series concluded.
The post-series handshake line is one of the most cherished traditions in playoff hockey, but after Val-d'Or knocked out Baie-Comeau Tuesday night, it quickly became apparent that no good would come of such a meeting.
The Foreurs had been down 3-0 in the series and needed double overtime in Game 4 just to stay alive, but the defending league champs (who certainly don't look like they lost most of their best players from last season) mounted a comeback and sealed Baie-Comeau's fate when Colorado Avalanche draft pick Alexis Pepin scored in overtime of Game 7 on home ice.
That's when things jumped up a notch.
According to the Buzzing the Net blog, the Drakkar were upset with how Val-d'Or's Jeremie Fraser celebrated the winning goal in front of their bench. There was also mention of a clip shown on the scoreboard of goalie Philippe Cadorette smashing his stick after Baie-Comeau lost to the Foreurs last season.
Needless to say, the handshake line did not go as planned, with Fraser briefly scrapping with Chad Pietroniro:
Perhaps the most disconcerting part of the video is at the two-minute mark, when projectiles from the stands begin to hit the departing Drakkar players.
The Foreurs now take on Rimouski in the semifinal.
