Mackenzie Skapski represents the Empire State on new Rangers mask

New York Rangers backup goaltender Mackenzie Skapski is going to have a tough time cracking the lineup this season, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have the most style of all goaltenders in the Empire State. Skapski unveiled a new mask, which pays tribute to the building of the Big Apple.

Mackenzie Skapski got his first taste of NHL action in 2014-15, and the goaltender is going to look the part if he gets another turn in the Rangers’ net this upcoming season. Skapski suited up for two games this past season, winning both for New York, but the 21-year-old netminder might have a hard time getting back into the big leagues with a healthy

Antti Raanta ahead of him on the depth chart. That doesn’t mean Skapski isn’t going to be prepared though. Should he get the call, Skapski will get to put this new piece of head gear on display, freshly painted with an homage to the construction of the Empire State Building. There’s also some fine detail that makes it appear Skapski’s gear was put together the same way. Take a look:

The Empire State Building homage is on the right hand side of the mask, where a worker is seen bolting a beam during construction of the world famous New York City landmark. There’s an incredible likeness to the original photo, which

can be seen here, and it’s quite the nice black and white design when placed against the red, blue and white Rangers colors. On the left panel of the mask is another construction photograph, this one of an iron worker during construction near the Chrysler Building in New York City. Again, the 

original photo is represented well and it’s another beautiful contrast to the standard Rangers colors. As always, though, it’s the minute details that make a mask great, and the painted on screws that give the Rangers’ Statue of Liberty logo the appearance of being bolted to Skapski’s mask bring the whole thing together. And, of course, Skapski’s nickname, ‘Skapper,’ appears along the chin of the mask. Skapski likely won’t be bringing the lid to the NHL this season with Raanta and Lundqvist ahead of him, but should an injury occur, Skapski will likely be the first to get the call. Otherwise, expect Hartford Wolf Pack fans to get a good look at Skapski’s new piece of gear.
