Fantasy Pool Look: 11 players who excel on the road

Earlier this week we looked at players who perform best at home, so today we turn to the best road warriors. If you need a boost in your pool, make sure to play these players when they set off on a trip.

Some players perform better at home. Others get it done on the road. When making a difficult roster decision, consider this information as a tiebreaker.

In this two-part set, I'll take a look at the home and road performances of players around the league and draw your attention to some standouts.

Here are the notable players who have had significant production this season while bunking in hotels and eating restaurant food. (Check out the best home performers as well)

Tyler Seguin, Dallas Stars

Obviously that five-point game in Calgary helps his numbers here, but Seguin is still first in the league (tied with linemate Jamie Benn) with 18 points on the road in 14 games. His current three-game pointless drought includes two games at home. He has just five points in nine home games.

As noted above, Benn is atop the NHL in road points. Clearly, as Seguin goes, so goes Benn. Or is it - as Benn goes, so goes Seguin?

Jordan Eberle, Edmonton Oilers

Just six points in 11 games in Edmonton adds fuel to the fire. Oilers fans aren't happy, given the way the team has played despite a rebuilding process that has lasted the better part of five years. At least Eberle has 14 points in 14 road games.

Mark Arcobello, Edmonton Oilers

After 12 points in 16 games to start the year, Arcobello went four games without a point (thanks to Sam Gagner returning from injury and bringing down his playing time) and has been in the press box ever since. Of his 12 points, 10 of them came on the road (13 games). The good news for Arcobello owners is that he needs to play 49 more games this season, or he’s an unrestricted free agent. Normally, a Group 6 free agent like him would have to play a minimum of 80 games in a season to prevent unrestricted status, but because of the lockout, Capgeek says players with three professional seasons only need to play 69 games. So the Oilers have to play him 49 of the next 57, or lose him for nothing. This may motivate them to give him playing time.

David Legwand, Nashville Predators

Legwand has 19 points in his past 21 games. That's pretty frustrating for keeper league owners because we seem to see this type of surge every three or four years. That's just long enough to hold out hope he can contribute to your roster…and then you give up and finally drop him when he doesn’t. He was dropped in two of my (keep everyone) dynasty leagues in September. Anyway, Legwand has 13 points in 15 games on the road, but just seven in 10 at home.

Clarke MacArthur, Ottawa Senators

A piece of advice to keeper league owners: MacArthur is a great second-line scorer when he has something to prove. He did it in Toronto (62 points) and he's doing in Ottawa. But it's that second year with the team after he's solidified his roster spot that's the problem. The point is - sell high on him in the off-season. MacArthur has 11 points in 13 road games this campaign playing with Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan.

Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators

Spezza is taking a lot of heat for his mediocre (by his standards) production. But that's made even more glaring by the fact he has just eight points in 12 games on home ice. The bulk of his production (13 in 12 games) has come on the road.

Mikkel Boedker, Phoenix Coyotes

If Boedker could step it up at the Jobing.com Arena he would be having a breakthrough campaign. But just four points in 12 games at home has hurt him. The 11 points in 13 road contests he’s gotten have salvaged his year early on.

Patrick Marleau, San Jose Sharks

Marleau is off to a (yet again) great start and sits tied for fourth in the league in road points with 14. His nine points in 11 games at home include a three-point effort Nov. 21 against Tampa Bay.

Mikhail Grabovski, Washington Capitals

This "road warrior" was stymied in his last two road games (against Toronto and Detroit). Even so, he has 12 points in 11 road games on the season, but just seven in 14 at home.

Jason Chimera, Washington Capitals

It's no coincidence that Grabo's frequent linemate Chimera is also strong on the road with numbers that are quite similar - 10 in 11 versus five in 14 at home.
