Alex Galchenyuk was flying high while Alex Ovechkin was laid low last night; find out why in our morning recap.
Essential Water Cooler
Alex Galchenyuk had a big game for the Montreal Canadiens, chipping in two assists and a goal in a 4-2 win over the Islanders. On the goal, he grabbed his jersey in celebration and kissed the logo on his sweater. Post-game, he said a couple veterans talked to him about the exuberance, but what could possibly be wrong about what the sophomore did? Not only was it spontaneous, but he was clearly repping the logo on the front, not the name on the back, as all good players are taught to do. We’re done with “act like you’ve been there,” right?
You could burn out a telestrator pointing out all the good things the Rangers did on this J.T. Miller goal in New York’s 4-3 win over Florida.
Men of the Night
Jaromir Jagr, New Jersey: The ageless wonder earned career point No. 1,700 on his goal against Nashville as the Devils beat up the Preds 5-0.
Grant Clitsome, Winnipeg: Fight fire with fire when you’re playing San Jose. Clitsome rang up three points for the Jets, who stunned the Sharks 5-4 in a shootout.
Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado: The Avs captain put on a show against Washington, notching a goal and an assist in a 4-1 burning of the Caps.
Frederik Andersen, Anaheim: Six games in and the Danish netminder is still unblemished, winning again and making 36 saves in a 3-1 triumph over Vancouver.
Better Luck Next Time
Alex Ovechkin got buried by Jan Hejda and didn’t draw the penalty he sought. Then the Washington captain had a goal denied when the refs ruled he had kicked it in. Then he whiffed on a hip check, allowing Landeskog a clear path for another Colorado goal. A game to forget to be sure.
