A couple months back, Kevin Demers, brother of San Jose Sharks blueliner Jason Demers, launched the video series #1 Fan. It profiles parents of NHLers reminiscing, quite touchingly, about their favorite moments watching their babies grow into professional hockey players.
The first featured Kevin and Jason’s father, Darrell, naturally. The latest stars Chet Couture, father of budding Sharks star Logan:
The series will continue as Kevin Demers strives toward his goal of re-establishing what he feels is a severed connection between fans and players. He told THN he’s had several NHL parents express interest in being featured next, but will work with the Sharks and NHLPA to determine the best candidate. He may also branch out beyond parents – “some guys in the league don’t have their parents as No. 1 fans,” he pointed out – and may hold a fan vote on who to spotlight next.
