Campbell's Cuts: What was that?

On the heels of the Chris Pronger suspension, blows to the head will undoubtedly be on the agenda when the league's GMs meet in Ottawa Monday.

But don't expect them to come to any consensus on the issue.

“We've been talking about this for a year,” said one GM. “I don't think (Saturday) night will have a lot to do with the discussions. It will be discussed. We know the players want it discussed and it's something we'll have continue to work through.”

“We're in a contact sport and people are going to get hurt,” said Ducks GM Brian Burke. “The notion we're going to take away hitting in the game because a big guy is going to hit a little guy…we can't take that out.”

The fact that the incident occurred in the first game televised by NBC in the Stanley Cup final certainly did not work in Pronger's favor.

Pronger's suspension was the third in league history for a player's actions during the Stanley Cup final. In 2002, Jiri Fischer of the Detroit Red Wings was suspended a game for a crosscheck on Tommy Westlund of the Carolina Hurricanes and in 2004, Ville Nieminen received a one-game sentence for his hit from behind on Vincent Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay LightningÂ…

Mike Comrie was quite amused that The Hockey News recently did a “Separated at Birth” comparing him to Lord Farquaad in Shrek.

“I thought I looked more like the good-looking Shrek did in the second movie,” Comrie said…

Shortly after the Pronger hit on McAmmond, Senators tough guy Chris Neil had some pointed words for Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer. Most of us thought Neil was telling the Ducks defenseman to keep his head up, but it turns out we were wrong.

“I just asked him how he was doing,” Neil said when asked what he said to Niedermayer. “I just wanted to say hi to a future Hall of Famer.”
