Status: Washington Capitals right winger

Ht: 6-foot-4 Wt: 212 pounds
DOB: Sept. 7, 1985 In: Winkler, Man.

First Hockey Memory: "Playing on my pond back home on the farm. My dad would flood it for us and my brother would go out there and shoot pucks around."
Hockey Inspiration(s): "I always grew up watching Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros. Those two were my favorite players. And they were guys I tried to emulate on the ice."
Last Book Read: "That's a pretty good question, give me a second here...Reading Pillars of the Earth. It's a pretty long book, I might not get through it. It's pretty good so far."
First Famous Hockey Player You Met Or Encountered: "It would be one of the Winnipeg Jets growing up, but I can't remember who it exactly was. I grew up a Jets fan so I watched a lot of their games."

Greatest Sports Moment: "I have a couple...I'd say winning the Calder Cup in the American League with the Hershey Bears. And getting drafted in 2003 with the Capitals was a dream of mine. Obviously to get drafted was a magical experience."

Most Painful Moment: "Any one of my surgeries. Getting injured definitely sucks. I've had a bit of an injury problem. After my first surgery, getting injured again, finding out I'd have to have surgery again was probably the most painful."
Most Memorable Goal: "I probably had two again. Calder Cup playoffs Game 7 in the third round in overtime was one of my favorite goals. And scoring in the Winter Classic was pretty cool as well. When you play on that big of a stage and get a goal is something I won't ever forget."
Funniest Players Encountered:
"Would definitely be Jason Chimera. He's a very interesting character; he keeps things light. It could be eight in the morning or 12 at night, he's wired at all times. Just a good guy to have around."
Closest Hockey Friend(s): "One of my best friends Justin Falk plays for the New York Rangers. We hang out all summer long and train together and everything."
Fiercest Competitors Encountered: "I'd say Matt Hendricks and Jay Beagle would be the more fierce guys. Tireless, hard workers, always in the gym working out."
Embarrassing Hockey Memory: "A couple of years ago I was in a shootout and I came down and kinda half-forgot the puck in the slot and tried to take a shot and there was no puck there. I ended up getting a shot off, but it was still very embarrassing."
Current Car: "I have an Escalade EXT truck (pearl white)."
Favorite Uniforms: "Growing up I always liked the Florida Panthers for some reason, I don't know why. But that was my favorite logo and I'd always try and draw it and everything so I'll go with the Panthers."
Strangest Game: "I played in a game in junior when we had a full-out bench brawl in the third period. Every player from both teams was on the ice fighting. It was against Lethbridge my first year in the league. I was one of the smallest guys so I was pretty nervous out there. I had a tough guy first then one of our tough guys saw that and came and jumped in, grabbed him, and I ended up grabbing another guy and we kinda just hung on to each other for a while."
Favorite Sport Outside Hockey:
"Definitely baseball, I'm a big baseball fan. I like the Toronto Blue Jays."
Three Athletes You Like To Watch And Follow: "A lot of the Blue Jays, I like to watch Brett Cecil – he’s one of my buddies. A pitcher there. J.P Arencibia, a catcher. And obviously Jose Bautista. Ricky Romero - I'll throw him in there too."
Hobbies/Leisure Activities: "I enjoy playing video games. Play board games. I like beach volleyball, golf, all kinds of sports."

Personality Qualities Most Admired: "I like honest people. People you can just talk to straight up. I like people who have a little humor too, don't take life too seriously. That's kind of the way I am so I can appreciate that as well."

If the NHL took steps to virtually eradicate fighting, do you think its players would be more safe or less safe?
