Maple Leafs sign Kadri to two-year deal on eve of start of training camp

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Nazem Kadri to a contract on the eve of training camp.

Kadri, a restricted free agent centre whose lack of a deal became one of the biggest story lines of the off-season, got a two-year deal reportedly worth $5.8 million.

Kadri had 18 goals and 26 assists in 48 games last season, his first full one in the NHL. He was originally believed to be seeking a longer deal but wound up with a so-called "bridge" contract.

Kadri has 26 goals and 37 assists in 99 career NHL games.

Defenceman Cody Franson, also a restricted free agent, remained unsigned as of Tuesday night.
