When the Toronto Maple Leafs signed UFA Jay McClement to a two-year, $3 million contract on July 1, 2012 they knew they were getting a reliable checking-line center and it’s safe to say they got what they expected and then some. His eight goals and 17 points were a bonus. McClement has proven his worth in the defensive zone and on the penalty kill.
