Jets sign defenceman Kulda to new contract, place goaltender Montoya on IR

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Arturs Kulda to a new contract.

Kulda, 24, has played in 50 games with Novosibirsk of the Kontinental Hockey League this season, recording 15 points (nine goals, six assists) and 55 penalty minutes.

The native of Riga, Latvia, has played in 15 career NHL games with the Winnipeg/Atlanta franchise, collecting two assists and eight penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Thrashers in the seventh round, 200th overall, in the 2006 NHL draft.

The Jets also announced they have placed goaltender Al Montoya on the injured reserve retroactive to Wednesday with a lower-body injury.
