Looking at the career of Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery it's hard not to be amazed at how much difference a year can make. In 2007, Emery backstopped the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup final, but by spring 2010 he was forced to shut down his year prematurely when he was diagnosed with a hip ailment called avascular necrosis, which put his career in jeopardy.

The injury required surgery and a long rehabilitation process, but Emery battled back and has been an integral part of the Chicago Blackhawks' success in 2013.

As part of an upcoming cover story in The Hockey News magazine, THN’s Ryan Kennedy traveled to Chicago where he caught up with Emery to discuss the team’s hot start, splitting duties with Corey Crawford, overcoming injury and playing in the Windy City.
