Stars put Derek Roy on injured list, clearing spot for Jamie Benn's season debut

DALLAS - The Dallas Stars have placed forward Derek Roy on injured reserve with a groin injury, clearing a roster spot for the expected debut of Jamie Benn on Monday night at Columbus.

Roy, who was acquired from Buffalo in a trade that sent Steve Ott to the Sabres, was hurt Thursday against Chicago. He has two assists in four games.

Benn and the Stars agreed on a five-year, $26.25 million contract the same night Roy got hurt. Benn, who was a restricted free agent, missed Saturday's loss to St. Louis.
