NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Rangers recalled forward Benn Ferriero from Connecticut of the AHL and might soon have forward Jason Arnott to provide veteran depth at centre.
Ferriero had an assist in his debut for Connecticut on Friday and was set to join the Rangers for the first time Saturday against Toronto. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday for forward Chad Kolarik.
Rumours that the 38-year-old Arnott would soon be signed by New York swirled around Madison Square Garden an hour before Saturday night's game, but Rangers coach John Tortorella said nothing was done on that front. He declined to comment further.
New York got rugged forward Arron Asham back in the lineup after he missed two games because of a groin injury.
