Team Canada cuts first five from world junior squad

Team Canada made its first five cuts from the World Junior Championship squad that will compete in Ufa, Russia beginning at the end of the month.

Forwards Sean Monahan (2013 draft eligible) and Tyler Graovac (Minnesota, 191st overall), and defensemen Derrick Pouliot (Pittsburgh, eighth overall), Adam Pelech (Islanders, 65th overall) and Francis Beauvillier (Florida, 174th overall) were sent home from the team's selection camp in Calgary.

All 10 countries participating in the event must submit their final rosters by Dec. 25.

Canada finished with the bronze medal at last year's event.
