Mats Sundin became the first European born player to be drafted No. 1 when Quebec tabbed him in June of 1989. While he didn’t remain with the Nordiques for long, there is no doubt he lived up to the hype that accompanies a first overall pick.
Sundin averaged better than a point-per game during his 1,346 game career and was the longest serving non-North American-born captain in NHL history.
THN’s Ken Campbell caught up with the Swede following the ring ceremony Monday morning. The pair discuss Sundin returning to Toronto in a Vancouver Canucks jersey, his time in Quebec and more.
