Defenceman Matt Lashoff signs contract with Zurich Lions in Switzerland

ZURICH - Matt Lashoff is on his way to Switzerland after signing a contract with the Zurich Lions.

The 25-year-old defenceman spent the last two seasons in Toronto, primarily with the American Hockey League Marlies.

He appeared in just nine regular-season games last year before suffering a serious knee injury in October.

He returned as an emergency callup during the Marlies run to the Calder Cup final.

A former first-round pick by the Boston Bruins, Lashoff has appeared in 74 career NHL games, including 11 with the Maple Leafs in 2010-11.

Zurich is the defending champion of the Swiss National League and is coached by Marc Crawford.
