Connor McDavid was taken first overall in the OHL draft by the Erie Otters.

When Connor McDavid was granted exceptional status to be drafted into the OHL as a 15-year-old he instantly joined an elite group.

He is just the third player in the past decade to earn the right to go to major junior early. McDavid joins Aaron Ekblad, who received an exemption last season, and New York Islanders center John Tavares, who received the honor in 2005.

THN’s Ken Campbell caught up with the budding prodigy at All-State All-Canadian mentorship camp in Mississauga, Ont., to talk about his choice to go to major junior, the challenges that lie ahead and more.
