After 2 days of labour talks, NHL, players' union agree to meet next week in Toronto

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The NHL and NHL Players' Association have completed two days of negotiations in New York and agreed to continue talks next week in Toronto.

Both sides released separate statements after talks ended Friday.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly termed the meetings as productive and was pleased with "the level of engagement." Without going into details, he said a number of important issues were raised and will be more thoroughly discussed later.

NHLPA Executive Director Don Fehr said the union looks forward to resuming talks next week. Fehr added that eight players and three owners attended the sessions.

The two sides have now met three times since opening talks June 29 in a bid to reach a new collective bargaining agreement before the current one expires Sept. 15.
