GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Phoenix Coyotes have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent forward Steve Sullivan.

The 37-year-old Sullivan played 79 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, ranking sixth in team scoring with 17 goals and 31 assists.

Sullivan added two goals and four assists in six playoff games.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney confirmed the deal Wednesday.

"We are very pleased to welcome Steve to the Coyotes," Maloney said in a statement. "Steve is an intelligent player who adds skill to our lineup and will help improve our power play.

"He is a great addition to our roster."

The five-foot-nine, 161-pound Sullivan had his best season with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2000-01, registering 34 goals and 41 assists in 81 games.

In 15 NHL seasons with New Jersey, Toronto, Chicago, Nashville and Pittsburgh, Sullivan has 283 goals, 447 assists and 563 penalty minutes in 969 games.

The native of Timmins, Ont., was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the ninth round (233rd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

In 2009, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
