Coyotes' Brett MacLean taken to hospital after suffering cardiac emergency

LONDON, Ont. - Brett MacLean of the Phoenix Coyotes has been admitted to hospital after suffering a cardiac emergency.

The team issued a statement on Tuesday saying the 23-year-old winger has been admitted to hospital in London, Ont., after suffering a medical emergency while playing hockey Monday night in Owen Sound, Ont.

The Coyotes said MacLean received CPR on site before being taken by ambulance to hospital in Owen Sound. He was then taken by air ambulance to London, where he was admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Brett and his family," Phoenix general manager Don Maloney said in a statement. "We request that everyone please respect their privacy at this time. We will provide an update on Brett's status when information is available."

MacLean played most of last season with the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes' American Hockey League affiliate, where the London native had 25 goals and 23 assists in 63 games.

The Coyotes picked MacLean 32nd overall in the 2007 draft. He has two goals and three assists in 18 career NHL games with Phoenix and the Winnipeg Jets.

Former Coyotes teammate Kyler Turris, now a member of the Ottawa Senators, sent a message to MacLean through Twitter.

"Thoughts and prayers are going out to Brett Maclean, hope you get well soon man!" Turris tweeted.
