Montreal Canadiens sign checking forward Ryan White to one-year deal

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens signed checking forward Ryan White to a one-year, US$687,500 contract Tuesday.

The 24-year-old White, who earned $625,000 last season, was limited to three assists in 20 games last year with Montreal after suffering a sports hernia during training camp.

The Brandon, Man., native has two goals and eight assists in 63 career NHL games. The rugged right-winger was picked 66th overall in the 2006 NHL entry draft.

“I think when you’re at home the first two games, sometimes you get a little bit too comfortable at home. Then you come on the road, maybe it’s like a rude awakening…We’ve had three series to figure that out, learn it. We definitely want to be better (Monday), especially in the first game on the road.”
