Vancouver Canucks sign Niagara IceDogs centre Alex Friesen to contract

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks signed centre Alex Friesen to a three-year entry-level contract on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old forward had 71 points (26 goals, 45 assists) and 106 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Ontario Hockey League's Niagara IceDogs this season.

The five-foot-10, 189-pound native of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., was drafted by Vancouver in the sixth round (No. 172 overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
