Maple Leafs D Gunnarsson hurt after being levelled by check by Sabres' Foligno

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Carl Gunnarsson won't return to the game against the Buffalo Sabres after being shaken up by a heavy hit in the opening minute.

Gunnarsson sustained an undisclosed upper body injury on Tuesday night. He was hurt 12 seconds into the game when he was on the receiving end of a shoulder-to-shoulder hit from Buffalo rookie Marcus Foligno behind the Toronto net. The force of the check knocked off Gunnarsson's helmet.

Gunnarsson went directly to the bench, but then took one more shift before going to the dressing room.
