Legacy fulfilled: Blake Geoffrion called up from AHL by Montreal Canadiens

MONTREAL - Blake Geoffrion is finally getting a chance to wear the bleu, blanc et rouge of the Montreal Canadiens.

Geoffrion was recalled from the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs on Monday and will be in the lineup for Montreal in Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 24-year-old left-winger had two goals and six assists in five games with the Bulldogs since being acquired in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Feb. 17.

He had three assists in 22 games with Nashville this season.

Geoffrion is the fourth generation of his family to play for the Canadiens. His great grandfather was Hall of Famer Howie Morenz, who played in Montreal for 12 seasons in the 1920s and 30s.

His paternal grandfather was Bernie (Boom Boom) Geoffrion, another NHL Hall of Famer, who spent 14 seasons with the Canadiens between 1950 and 1964.

Geoffrion's father, Dan, played a season with the Habs before moving on to the Winnipeg Jets for two seasons.

The Canadiens assigned forward Louis Leblanc to Hamilton to make space for Geoffrion.
