Wild send veteran Greg Zanon to Bruins for prospect Steve Kampfer in defenceman swap

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Wild have traded defenceman Greg Zanon to the Boston Bruins for defenceman Steve Kampfer.

The deal was done Monday right before the NHL's trading deadline. Zanon was the third Wild defenceman dealt in the last four days. Marek Zidlicky went to New Jersey and Nick Schultz was sent to Edmonton.

The 31-year-old Zanon will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Kampfer is 23, with five goals in 48 career games with the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins, who were looking for another gritty veteran on the blue line.

The Oilers sent defenceman Tom Gilbert for Schultz, and former Wild defenceman Kurtis Foster was reacquired from the Devils in the package for Zidlicky. Kampfer will report to Minnesota's AHL affiliate.
