Detroit goalie Howard sidelined by broken index finger, hopes to practise soon

DETROIT - Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard missed his fourth game Friday night because of a broken right index finger.

Howard, who has an NHL-leading 32 wins, says he hopes to start taking shots in practice Saturday.

Howard, who played in his first all-star game this season, has been told by doctors he can't hurt the finger any more than it already is and he can start taking shots whenever he can stand the pain.

Howard said he needs a couple of days of taking shots before he can return.
