Canadiens sign top junior prospect Brendan Gallagher to three-year deal

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens signed prospect Brendan Gallagher to three-year contract Wednesday.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced. The deal begins with the 2012-13 season.

The fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft leads the Vancouver Giants of the WHL with 18 goals and 13 assists this season.

The five-foot-eight, 174-pound Gallagher was one of the most impressive young forwards in the Canadiens training camp in September.

The Edmonton native has 113 goals and 121 assists in 208 WHL games. He was named captain of the WHL team that played Russia in a Super Series game Wednesday night in Regina.
