The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Oct. 17-23 is Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick.
This was an easy pick. How can a goalie do any better in a seven-day span than the performance Quick put on?
In the first game of the week, the Kings hosted the St. Louis Blues. Quick faced 27 shots and stopped them all for his third win of the season.
Two nights later the Kings were in Phoenix to take on the Coyotes. Quick faced a similar amount of shots, 28 and, once again, turned them all aside.
Finally, the Kings hosted the Dallas Stars Saturday night. Quick again faced 28 shots and can you guess what the result was? You got it. Quick stopped each of the shots he faced for his fifth win of the season and third shutout of the week.
All together, Quick has a 5-0-1 record, 0.81 GAA and .972 SP on the season. Through seven games, the Kings are 5-1-1 and sit one point behind Colorado and Dallas for top spot in the Western Conference.
This week the Kings take on the Devils at home and the Stars, Coyotes and Avalanche on the road.

“I think when you’re at home the first two games, sometimes you get a little bit too comfortable at home. Then you come on the road, maybe it’s like a rude awakening…We’ve had three series to figure that out, learn it. We definitely want to be better (Monday), especially in the first game on the road.”
