Philadelphia Flyers name Chris Pronger captain; Timonen, Briere alternates

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Flyers have named Chris Pronger the 18th captain in team history.

The Flyers also selected on Friday Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere as alternate captains for the 2011-12 season.

Pronger is starting his third season with the Philadelphia. Pronger has 14 goals and 80 points in two years with the Flyers and helped lead them to the Stanley Cup finals in 2010.

He takes over for Mike Richards, who was traded to the Los Angeles Kings over the summer.

Timonen was a captain for Nashville and Briere previously served as captain for the Buffalo Sabres.
