The Florida Panthers missed out on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Gabriel Landeskog at this year’s draft, but they were ecstatic to land Jonathan Huberdeau with the third overall pick. Last season the Quebec native demonstrated he was a big-game performer and that caught the eye of the Florida scouting staff. He was named the Memorial Cup MVP in June, while leading the Saint John Sea Dogs to their first championship.
The Panthers hope the versatile forward will one day lead their franchise back to glory along with 2010 first round pick, defenseman Erik Gudbranson. But for now, Huberdeau is focused on having a strong training camp and avoid being sent back to junior.
THN’s Ryan Kennedy caught up with the Saint-Jérôme, Que., native at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Toronto to discuss, Florida’s development camp, his Twitter battles with Rocco Grimaldi and much more.
