Defenseman Brendan Smith has kept Detroit fans waiting ever since the Red Wings drafted him 27th overall in 2007. The Toronto native tantalized in 2009-10 when he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award at Wisconsin and led all NCAA defensemen in scoring. After spending last season in the American League, Smith is ready to make a splash with the big club.
THN’s Ryan Kennedy caught up with the 22-year-old at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Toronto to discuss the St. Michael's hockey system, his healthy rivalry with his brother, Reilly, and much more.
