Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke sacrificed his own first round pick in 2010 and 2011 in the Phil Kessel trade, but ensured his team had prospect options in 2011.

And it should come as no surprise Burke was willing to trade up to choose a 6-foot-2, 210-pound, power forward 22nd overall. Tyler Biggs plays the type of game the Leafs GM covets. He demonstrates a strong work ethic and uses his size to impose his will on the ice. Biggs spent the 2010-11 campaign with the U.S. Under-18 National Team Development Program, where he had 17 goals and 28 points in 48 games.

With their second pick of the first round, Toronto took two-way defender Stuart Percy. Percy is coming off a whirlwind season that saw his Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors come within a goal of capturing the Ontario League championship and also came up short in the Memorial Cup final. But Percy gained valuable experience playing in big games and demonstrated he can play well under the spotlight. Last season, Percy had four goals and 34 points in 64 games for the Majors.

After the two were picked in Minnesota, THNTV caught up with Biggs and Percy to get their reactions after being chosen by their favorite team.
