Buffalo Sabres announce an agreement to purchase Rochester Americans of the AHL

The Buffalo Sabres have an agreement to purchase the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The AHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the transaction on Friday. In the process, the Sabres also announced their affiliation agreement with the Portland Pirates has ended.

The Sabres expect to hold a press conference in Rochester next week to set forth their plans for the franchise. The purchase of the Americans reunites the Sabres with their former affiliate, one that is approximately 120 kilometres away.
