TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING AT PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Game 1: 3-0 Pittsburgh

Game 2: 7:00 Friday

Notes: After heading into the third in a scoreless tie, the Penguins scored two goals in 18 seconds that made the difference in Game 1… Pittsburgh’s 25th-ranked power play went 0-for-6 in Game 1… Tampa Bay had only one power play opportunity in the opening game… Martin St-Louis had two root canals Wednesday night after breaking three teeth from a Zbynek Michalek high stick - he will play in Game 2.

Notes: After being held goalless (and to only two assists) in last year’s opening round loss to Montreal, Alex Semin scored the overtime-winner and had an assist in Game 1… Six of the eight total penalty minutes in Game 1 occurred in the first period… The Capitals blocked 32 shots in Game 1, the most in 29 post-season games under coach Bruce Boudreau… Alex Ovechkin led all players with six shots and six hits in Game 1… Henrik Lundqvist has a career 14-17 record in the NHL playoffs.

Notes: The Canucks won Game 1 of last year’s six-game showdown against Chicago, but ended up losing the series… Roberto Luongo had a 1.76 GAA in his last 26 regular season starts… Luongo’s Game 1 shutout was the second of his playoff career… The Sedins were held scoreless in Game 1 and both had less ice time than Alex Burrows… Marian Hossa led all players with six shots in Game 1… Chris Campoli, Ryan Johnson, Troy Brouwer and Ben Smith were the only Hawks who didn’t get a shot in Wednesday’s game… Dave Bolland missed Game 1 and won’t play Game 2.

Notes: Corey Perry had five shots and was minus-1 in Game 1… The Ducks got in Pekka Rinne’s face in the third period in an effort to throw the Predators goalie off his game and is a storyline to watch in Game 2… Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan combined for two shots and a minus-2 rating in Game 1… Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin and Nashville right winger Sergei Kostitysn didn’t practice Thursday, but both are expected to play… With Game 1’s win, Pekka Rinne has four wins and no losses against Anaheim this season - the Ducks’ only win over Nashville came against backup Anders Lindback… Ducks coach Randy Carlyle hasn’t announced who his starter will be for Game 2.
