Atlant knocks off Lokomotiv 8-2 in Game 6 of West KHL final, advances to championship

Atlant Mytishchi routed Lokomotiv in Yaroslavl 8-2 in Saturday to close out the Kontinental League Western Conference final 4-2 and advance to the championship series.

Atlant had led the series with Lokomotiv 3-0 before allowing the Railwaymen to climb back in it with two wins in row. However, today Atlant left no doubt as to who is the top team in the KHL’s Western Conference, dominating Lokomitv while punching their ticket to their first ever Gagarin Cup final appearance.

Atlant’s offensive onslaught was led by 40-year-old Oleg Petrov, who netted a hat trick, and Eduard Lewandowski, who added three assists.

“After two defeats, many doubted our success,” said Petrov.  “Today, I think we left no doubt.  Psychologically we were ready, we came out on the ice and played hockey.”

Atlant now awaits either Salavat Yulaev Ufa or Metallurg Magnitogorsk, who are current facing off in the Eastern Conference final.  Salavat Yulaev leads that series 3-2 with Game 6 Sunday in Magnitogorsk.
