The Mount Royal Cougars of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference have been stripped of their provincial title won three days ago after a player on the roster was deemed to be ineligible.
The ACAC ruled the Cougars would have to play the SAIT Trojans in a rematch of the final. The game will be replayed Saturday April 2 at 6 p.m. at the SAIT arena.
It was ruled the Cougars, in error, had a backup goalie on the bench who was ineligible to be on the championship game roster. The goalie was added after the team’s usual starter was injured the day before.
The Trojans now will have another opportunity to be the first team to win the provincial championship five years in a row.
