The Hockey News player of the week for the period of March 21-28, 2011 is Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller.
As the Sabres try and hold off the Carolina Hurricanes for the eighth and final playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, Miller led the team to a perfect 3-0 week.
Miller began with a 31-save performance against the Montreal Canadiens in a 2-0 win that was his fourth shutout of the season. Three nights later the Sabres took on the lowly Florida Panthers and earned a 4-2 win in a 22-save performance. Finally, in a crucial game with playoff implications, Miller posted his second shutout of the week and fifth of the season in a 1-0 win against the New Jersey Devils.
In all, Miller faced 85 shots on the week and stopped 83 of them.
With seven games left in the season the Sabres have a 38-28-9 record. Their 85 points are five ahead of ninth-placed Carolina and two behind Montreal and the Rangers, who are tied for sixth.
After winning last year’s Vezina, Miller has posted a 33-21-8 record, 2.58 GAA and .916 SP for Buffalo this season. He has won 220 career games with the Sabres, which is 14 shy of Dominik Hasek’s franchise record.
