Bolts captain Lecavalier gets game misconduct for slashing Subban

MONTREAL - Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier was given a slashing major and a game misconduct for a retaliatory two-handed chop to Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban on Thursday night.

Lecavalier had just taken a hard slash on the forearm from Subban coming out from behind the net with the puck. The Montreal native spun and dropped Subban to the ice with a slash to the hip area.

Subban, who was not injured on the play, was given two minutes for slashing.

The two had been cross-checking one another back and forth fiercely for several seconds during a Tampa Bay power play before trading slashes.

The fans at Bell Centre, who only a few years ago were urging the Canadiens to trade for Lecavalier, cheered the referees' decision.
